Sara has a lot of ideas for her half sleeve. WAAAY more than she needs. Luckly she is very flexible and open to my artistic direction. We decided to do A woman dancing (ala Isador Duncan) with a field of animals. We both also like the artist Marc Chagall so decided to see if we could throw his style in the mix.
Its always a challenge for me to draw in other artists style. Its just not something I enjoy doing. I don’t even really like tattooing flash but I think I figured out a way to make it all work. Im hoping she thinks so too.
If you notice in the background the faint animals. I’m thinking of using these paintings as inspiration for the background of the piece.
As usual its up to her . Did I nail it or do I go back to the drawing board?
The rad thing about being a tattooer is one has the opportunity to explore new worlds. It feels much like doing research for a documentary. A client of mine wanted to do a tattoo that paid homage to his Filipino culture. He teaches a dance called Pangalay. I had never heard of it but he brought me a bunch of images and I was instantly excited.
I obviously used this one as a source but had to make the girl a little more sexy. I mean, drawing hot chicks is what I do.
Then using the idea of the dances signature out stretched fingers and brass nails I drew this other beauty. I added a modernized Hijab for extra points.
I think I’m in love (dont tell my girl hehe).
Assuming he loves it as much as me, stay tuned for the Tattoo as it progress.
NOTE: Once we started tattooing, I found I needed another figure so I drew up a few more hoping one would fit. Luckly it did. Click here to see the tattoo in progress.
